Our faculty participated in the “Seminar on English Teaching Reform and Talent Cultivation in Universities in the New Era (2023)”.

From April 7th to 10th, 2023, the “High-end Seminar on English Teaching Reform and Talent Cultivation in Universities in the New Era (2023)” was held in Guilin, hosted by the College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Press, and undertaken by Guilin University of Technology. Zhang Jiyun and Wang Jing, our faculty members, participated in this conference.


The conference focused on in-depth discussions including the high-quality and efficient construction practices and research of the English courses in universities, the structural layout and optimization of the English curriculum, construction on "Four New" and systematic reform of talent training paradigm, and empowering teachers with smart education, etc. At this conference, Zhao Haiyun, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Communication of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, discussed the direction of English language training in the new era based on international communication from three aspects. Professor Liu Jianda, Vice Chairman of the College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, introduced the development of the “China English Language Proficiency Scale” and how to use the proficiency scale to guide English teaching in universities. Professor Yu Weishen from Chongqing University presented ChatGPT Empowerment: Designing University English Teaching, tracking technical frontiers, guiding academic hotspots, and opening up the AI era of English teaching in universities.


The teachers who have participated in this seminar expressed that they learned a lot from the conference, which helped to enhance their own ideological and political awareness and ability of the curriculum. In the forum discussions, they held in-depth discussions on the future of university English teachers in the face of the impact of new technologies with experts and other teachers. These discussions also provided new directions and ideas for the reform of university English teaching in our School of Foreign Languages.
